The Masonic Hall in Tenants Harbor was built in 1893-94. As well as being a significant landmark in the center of town and a home for Eureka Lodge and the Naomi Chapter #25, Order of the Eastern Star, it has hosted many community events, including the annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast, suppers and other activities. As you can see from the pictures above, it has recently been in need of major repairs.
After our fund-raising campaign, started in 2011, we thought we had enough money to tell the contractor to start work. Unfortunately, as the job progressed, other problems became apparent (don't they always?), and in the end we had to take a loan just to get the essential work done (the roof, the sill beams and replacing a rotten corner post). Although we received a number of very generous donations, it took a while to retire this loan, a goal finally reached in 2017. Now we turn our attention to attacking the outstanding work (a handicapped access ramp, the front access steps, a new heating system, replacing of the remaining old wiring - the list goes on and on).
